I was recently sent out (after a lot of begging) to cover the final track work session at the Geelong Race Course before the Geelong Cup. This guy had just finished his shower and was drying off in the sun when he stuck his tongue out, I fired a shot, and one of my favourite photos ever was caught!
One of my favourite front pages! The girls were going around so fast I wasn’t sure what I’d come home with! But a nice bright sky meant I could use a fast shutter speed and a nice small aperture to keep it all in focus. Plus, because they were too busy hooting and screaming, they weren’t bothered by the sun on their faces, so I could get a nice blue sky and bright faces!

Another horrible day on the job! Kidding! Saturday saw me trotting aruond the You Yangs at the Geelong Mountain Bike Club’s annual You Yangs Yowie and Dirt Squirts kids mountain bike race. This particular spot - Link Track - was the scene of a great deal of carnage. Fortunately for this rider he managed to get through unscathed!
Jan Juc brothers Cody and Mickey are favourites for this week’s Rip Curl Grom Search. It’s a seriously tough job, hanging out at the beach with a few talented groms, getting a tan and a pay check!
Just a little obsessed by food!?! I should mention here, when you shoot reflective surfaces and you want to limit the amount of reflection / hot spots on the side of the source light, grab your diffuser of choice and bring it as close to the subject as possible. You’ll get a nice sense of the surface without blinding contrast and bright patches of white.
I love this photo of Torquay celebrating their elimination final win while Modewarre exit the ground. Such a contrast of emotions.

Only 28 days until the Surf Coast Century, so I thought I celebrate the countdown with another running shot from my point and shoot. On the days when my run just isn’t ‘happening’ for me (like today!!), my camera gives me some sanity and makes it a little more fun!
While I don’t specialise in children’s photography, I do enjoy photographing them. I love this shot of the little guy running across a paddock. Deliberately leaving the shutter speed nice and slow, I panned to show him moving at warp speed (toddlers can really motor!). I processed it in RAW to give it an antique, cold, winter feel.
I love this photo. His gorgeous bride has just arrived and his expression is just beautiful. I deliberately left a bit of noise in this to give it an old film feel.
